College Policies/Practices

- Assisting Students with petitions to Faculty EC or Committee on Courses and Degrees

- Brochures and Pamphlets on Academic Programs: Remember to route through Scott Dittman to the Publications Office all revised and freshly prepared academic program brochures and pamphlets that are being submitted for publication. The Registrar checks academic regulations, policies, and guidelines in these publications for accuracy and consistency in what is reported to prospective students and others about our academic program.

- Departmental and Program Reviews: Guidelines and Assessment forms, information about Institutional Effectiveness Committee and Dean's Office resources for departments.

- Grading: relevant policies and advice to faculty from the Faculty Handbook and from the University Registrar about Grades and GPA.

- Grievances: all employees need to know how to bring forward a complaint of any type.

- New Faculty Orientation: department heads should attend to the Guidelines for guiding junior faculty development, the Dean of the College organizes various orientation programs and the Provost provides an orientation session covering University Policies.  New faculty should look over the New Faculty Orientation Guide for helpful hints on how to get started at W&L, and all faculty should refer to the College Guide Book for helpful hints.

- Protocol for Sponsors of International Visitors to the W&L Campus: Please make note of the new changes to the policies regarding International Visitors.

- Space Use and Planning: All plans for modifying space in College buildings must be discussed with the Dean of the College prior to securing any work orders.  Contact the Dean as soon as possible to avoid delays.

-Students with Disabilities:

-Testing Policies: The TMC testing policy, as posted on the web, is quite clear. Students should be reminded to complete the TMC orientation if they are in a class for the first time that uses the TMC.

*It would be helpful to remind all faculty who use the TMC as a testing facility to do the following:

(1) Explain the TMC testing policy (available from the TMC homepage) and how it works for your class. Include this information on your syllabus and on each test.
(2) Write clear instructions on each test/quiz itself in English.
(3) Include information about when students should and should not speak about the test (e.g. "Students should not discuss this test until the testing period is over.").

*As a general guideline: if an individual professor is giving a test with no time limit and over an extended period of time, that professor should consider using a "take-home" test mode of distribution and collection (through the departmental Administrative Assistant or doing it himself or herself).
