Orientation at-a-glance for New College Faculty, 2007
We will be conducting orientation sessions for new full-time faculty and point your attention
to the following items.
FACULTY ACADEMY AND MANDATORY (for full-time College faculty) ORIENTATION SESSIONS: University Computing and the Office of the Dean of the College co-sponsor a week of training sessions from August 20 through August 28. You are welcome to pick and choose among the sessions in order to attend those that most suit your needs. You may access the current schedule for Faculty Academy, and sign up for sessions via this link: http://facultyacademy.wlu.edu **PLEASE NOTE that there are two sessions that are mandatory for full-time College faculty.
ORIENTATION GUIDEBOOK: An invaluable tool for your orientation to the University is the online Orientation Guidebook for College Faculty, located at this link: http://thecollege.wlu.edu/administration/guideBook/index.htm . Please give it a look and be prepared at the August 20th session (and beyond) to ask any questions that you may have. MENTOR PROGRAM: Tenure-track faculty members will be assigned faculty mentors. These faculty members have your names and contact information and should be in touch relatively soon. If you are not a tenure-track faculty member but would like a faculty mentor, please contact Elizabeth Knapp, and she will try to accommodate your request. Encourage your mentors to fill you in on the many events that take place on campus (Convocation, Parents' Weekend, and beyond). There are so many things going on that it's helpful to get an overview of the year's events early. Reception for new faculty and their mentors: Tuesday, August 28,
4:00-5:30pm, Alumni House. NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION: You are welcome to attend the orientation events for freshman students. The complete schedule of events can be viewed (as it becomes available) from this link: http://studentaffairs.wlu.edu/freshman_program/orientationprogramsandathlete.htm.
ORIENTATION SESSIONS WITH THE UNIVERSITY REGISTRARS: University Registrars Scott Dittman and Barbara Rowe will be holding two extremely useful sessions on Faculty WebServices, grading policies, web registration, and other related issues during the final hour of each of the two mandatory sessions.
GRANT-WRITING INFORMATION: Later in the fall term, there will be an introduction to our Office of Foundation and Corporate Relations, whose staff will explain how they help faculty members in the grants research and writing process. Please stay tuned for more information. CAMPUS TOUR: Consider taking a tour of campus with one of our guides from the Admissions office. Information available at: http://admissions.wlu.edu/web/page/normal/127.html .
