Orientation at-a-glance for New College Faculty, 2009
We will be conducting orientation sessions for new full-time faculty and point your attention
to the following items.
FACULTY ACADEMY AND MANDATORY (for full-time College faculty) ORIENTATION SESSIONS: Information Technology Services and the Office of the Dean of the College co-sponsor a week of training sessions in August. You are welcome to pick and choose among the sessions in order to attend those that most suit your needs. You may access the tentative schedule for Faculty Academy, and sign up for sessions. **PLEASE NOTE that there are two sessions that are mandatory for full-time College faculty.
MENTOR PROGRAM: Tenure-track faculty members will be assigned faculty mentors. These faculty members have your names and contact information and should be in touch relatively soon. If you are not a tenure-track faculty member but would like a faculty mentor, please contact Elizabeth Knapp, and she will try to accommodate your request. Encourage your mentors to fill you in on the many events that take place on campus (Convocation, Parents' Weekend, and beyond). There are so many things going on that it's helpful to get an overview of the year's events early.
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION: You are welcome to attend the orientation events for first year students. The complete schedule of events can be viewed (as it becomes available) from this link: First Year Program
ORIENTATION SESSIONS WITH THE UNIVERSITY REGISTRARS: University Registrars Scott Dittman and Barbara Rowe will be holding two extremely useful sessions on Faculty WebServices, grading policies, web registration, and other related issues during the final hour of each of the two mandatory sessions.
GRANT-WRITING INFORMATION: Later in the fall term, there will be an introduction to our Office of Foundation and Corporate Relations, whose staff will explain how they help faculty members in the grants research and writing process. Please stay tuned for more information. CAMPUS TOUR: Consider taking a tour of campus with one of our guides from the Admissions office. Information available at: Campus Tours :: Washington and Lee University.
